You are invited to our next CAS Seminar which will be held on Friday, May 8th at 10 am EST. Our speaker will be Dr. Pérez Sánchez, Professor of Chemistry from the University of Costa Rica. The title of her presentation is “Quinones and Mechanochemistry: a Milling Story”.
Speaker’s Bio.
Dr. Pérez Sánchez, completed her undergraduate studies in Chemistry (Bachelor’s degree and “Licenciatura” degree) at the University of Costa Rica. She obtained her PhD in Organic Chemistry from Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada and is a full professor in the School of Chemistry as well as a researcher at the Natural Products Research Centre (CIPRONA), both at the University of Costa Rica (UCR).
She serves as the coordinator of the University of Costa Rica’s Postdoctoral Committee and is involved with the National Chemistry Olympiads Committee. Her area of expertise is the synthesis of organic compounds, mainly focus in quinones, and the study of their biological activity, especially those with antiparasitic (Chagas disease, Leishmania, and malaria), antimicrobial, anticancer, and antiviral activity. Her research group focuses on developing new synthesis methodologies based on the principles of Green Chemistry. Dr. Pérez Sánchez has given over 120 presentations at national and international conferences and seminars.
